陈小滢是陈西滢之女，继承其父这批日记书信资料。这次资料对于研究陈西滢中年生活工作思想具有重要价值。

“整理过程中，我不时感叹，这批写于1943-1946年，连注释总篇幅达皇皇63万字的家信/日记，堪弥足珍贵而又鲜活异常的'新'史料，是最富文采/妙趣的‘西滢闲话’。透过它们，不仅可了解与鲁迅打过笔仗的西滢之真实为人，更可侧面了解与他密切交往的同时代中外各界人士：胡适、宋子文/宋美龄、晏阳初、费孝通、林语堂、李卓敏、蒋廷黻、顾维钧、王世杰、杭立武、李四光、熊式一、蒋彝、杨振声、萧乾、李约瑟、罗素、汤因比，等等，亦有助于从中寻觅那个时代国际政治交往和中外文化交流的‘萍踪侠影’”。
